Gaming World News: Highlights from the Last 48 Hours

The gaming industry has delivered another busy 48 hours, with major announcements, surprising reports and significant changes across several well-known studios. From Capcom hinting at a potential future for Pragmata beyond its upcoming release to reports that Ubisoft is already developing another Far Cry title, there has been plenty for players to discuss.

Meanwhile, PlayStation has unveiled its PlayStation Plus monthly games for August, offering subscribers a strong mix of horror, co-operative adventures and indie favourites. Elsewhere, Double Fine Productions has confirmed staff layoffs following Microsoft’s latest restructuring, highlighting the continued uncertainty affecting parts of the gaming industry.

Here are the biggest stories shaping the gaming world over the last two days.

Gaming World News: Capcom Already Sees a Future Beyond Pragmata

One of the biggest surprises comes from Capcom, which has revealed that internal discussions suggest a Pragmata sequel is considered a realistic possibility if the original game performs well commercially.

Pragmata has experienced a lengthy development cycle since its original announcement, with multiple delays pushing its release back. However, anticipation remains high thanks to its unique science-fiction setting, mysterious narrative and visually impressive gameplay shown in recent previews.

Although Capcom has not officially announced a sequel, company representatives have indicated that expectations within the business are optimistic. If Pragmata achieves the sales figures Capcom hopes for, the publisher appears willing to expand the franchise into a longer-running series.

This reflects Capcom’s recent strategy of investing in successful intellectual properties. Franchises such as Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and Dragon’s Dogma have all benefited from long-term support and multiple entries.

For players, this confidence suggests Capcom believes Pragmata has the potential to become another flagship series rather than remaining a one-off experiment.

If the game launches strongly, fans may not have to wait long before hearing about future adventures in its mysterious universe.

Ubisoft Reportedly Developing Another Far Cry

Reports also suggest Ubisoft has another Far Cry project in active development.

According to industry sources, the new game—currently believed to carry the codename Kodiak—is reportedly being developed by Ubisoft studios working alongside other teams within the publisher’s global network.

While Ubisoft has yet to officially confirm the project, the reports indicate the company intends to continue expanding one of its most recognisable franchises.

Very little is currently known about the game’s setting, storyline or release window. However, speculation suggests Ubisoft wants to build on the open-world formula that has defined the series for years while introducing fresh mechanics to keep the experience feeling modern.

The Far Cry franchise remains one of Ubisoft’s biggest commercial successes. Each instalment has offered players large environments, memorable villains and freedom to approach missions in different ways.

Despite mixed reactions to some recent entries, the brand continues to attract millions of players worldwide.

If these reports prove accurate, Ubisoft is clearly showing continued confidence in the future of the series despite the publisher’s ongoing restructuring efforts and changing development priorities.

Fans will now be watching closely for any official reveal over the coming months.

Gaming World News: PlayStation Plus Reveals August Monthly Games

PlayStation has officially announced its PlayStation Plus monthly games for August, offering subscribers another varied selection across PS4 and PS5.

This month’s lineup includes:

  • Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition (PS5 & PS4)
  • Big Walk (PS5)
  • Signalis (PS4)

The biggest title is undoubtedly Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition. The open-world zombie survival game combines parkour movement with brutal combat and meaningful player choices. Since launch, developer Techland has continued improving the experience through numerous updates, making this version particularly appealing for newcomers.

Meanwhile, Big Walk introduces a cooperative multiplayer adventure that focuses on exploration, teamwork and communication. Its colourful style offers a very different experience from the more intense action found elsewhere in this month’s collection.

For players who enjoy atmospheric horror, Signalis delivers a critically acclaimed survival horror experience inspired by classic genre favourites. Its retro presentation, psychological storytelling and challenging gameplay have earned widespread praise.

Bonus Content for Marvel Fans

Alongside the monthly games, PlayStation Plus subscribers will automatically receive a Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls bonus pack.

The pack includes:

  • Five exclusive PlayStation avatars featuring Captain America, Storm, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom and Ghost Rider.
  • A collection of result screen character poses featuring 20 Marvel characters, including Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Peni Parker and many more.

The bonus content adds extra value for Marvel fans while helping build anticipation for the upcoming fighting game.

Overall, August provides one of the more diverse PlayStation Plus line-ups in recent months, offering action, horror, multiplayer fun and bonus collectibles in a single package.

Double Fine Confirms Layoffs Following Xbox Changes

The industry also received more difficult news after Double Fine Productions confirmed staff layoffs following Microsoft’s latest organisational changes.

The studio, best known for titles such as Psychonauts 2, confirmed that several employees have been affected by the restructuring.

In a statement, Double Fine acknowledged the importance of those leaving the company, saying:

“The people we are losing were all important.”

The studio also reassured fans that it remains committed to completing its existing projects while supporting affected employees where possible.

The news forms part of a wider trend across the gaming industry. Over the past two years, numerous publishers and developers have announced restructures, studio closures and workforce reductions despite continued growth in player numbers.

Rising development costs, changing market conditions and shifting investment priorities continue to reshape the industry.

Although Double Fine has not announced project cancellations, the layoffs serve as another reminder that even critically acclaimed studios remain vulnerable during periods of corporate restructuring.

Many fans have expressed support for the affected developers while hoping the talented team members quickly secure new opportunities elsewhere in the industry.

Gaming World News Final Thoughts

The last 48 hours have demonstrated just how quickly the gaming landscape continues to evolve.

Capcom’s confidence in Pragmata suggests the publisher already sees franchise potential before the game even launches. Ubisoft appears determined to keep Far Cry moving forward with another reported project. PlayStation Plus subscribers have received an impressive August selection that caters to several different tastes. Meanwhile, Double Fine’s layoffs provide another sobering reminder of the challenges facing game development studios today.

As always, the coming weeks are likely to bring further announcements, official reveals and updates that could reshape many of these stories.
