Netflix is reportedly planning on expanding its services into the video gaming industry. According to a report by The Information, the video streaming heavyweight is looking to recruit an executive to lead a potential video game section. The publishers claim that Netflix has been in talks with many “veteran game industry executives” about the position.
To coincide with this, the streaming service is also apparently looking to launch a “bundle” video game service similar to Apple Arcade which launched in Sept 2019 and gives subscribers access to over 100 games for $4.99pm.
Netflix has seemed to confirm their intentions in a statement to Polygon in which a Netflix spokesperson explained “Our members value the variety and quality of our content. It’s why we’ve continually expanded our offering… So we’re excited to do more with interactive entertainment,”.
This won’t be the first time Netflix has experimented with video gaming content. They have launched gaming-inspired experiences like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and an interactive episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Along with the above Netflix has also produced many series on video games like DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, The Witcher, Castlevania and more.
