Gaming World News: Highlights from the last 48 hours
It has been another busy period across the gaming world, with major updates arriving for three highly anticipated titles. James Bond has delivered another commercial win, a rumoured release date has been shut down, and Call of Duty players are preparing for battle.
IO Interactive has revealed an impressive new sales milestone for 007 First Light, confirming that the James Bond adventure has now sold more than four million copies. Meanwhile, Nintendo has poured cold water on reports suggesting The Duskbloods will launch on 24th September.
Elsewhere, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta begins today, giving eligible players their first opportunity to experience the latest Modern Warfare multiplayer action.
Here are the biggest stories making waves in gaming.
Gaming World News: 007 First Light Passes Four Million Sales

IO Interactive has another reason to celebrate after 007 First Light surpassed four million copies sold within roughly three months of release.
The James Bond adventure launched in May and quickly established itself as a major commercial success. In fact, the game sold 1.5 million copies during its first 24 hours, making it the fastest-selling release in IO Interactive’s history. It later passed 2.7 million copies during its first week.
Now, that momentum has continued.
The four-million milestone demonstrates the considerable appetite for a modern James Bond gaming experience. It is particularly significant for IO Interactive, a studio best known for creating the Hitman series.
However, 007 First Light isn’t simply another Hitman game wearing a tuxedo.
Instead, the game presents an original Bond origin story, following a younger version of the famous secret agent. Players experience Bond before he becomes the polished 007 audiences know from the films.
The title combines stealth, action, cinematic sequences and espionage. Consequently, it allows IO Interactive to use its experience with Hitman while building something distinctly Bond.
Its commercial performance suggests that approach has paid off.
According to IO Interactive, the sustained sales momentum reflects strong global interest in the game. Even more importantly, the four-million figure has been achieved before the planned Nintendo Switch 2 release.
That could give sales another boost later in 2026.
With post-launch content also planned, 007 First Light sales could remain strong throughout the year. IO Interactive has already outlined a Year One content roadmap featuring additional story missions, locations and Tactical Simulation updates.
Bond appears to have found a comfortable new home in gaming.
The Duskbloods September Release Date Is Not Real

While Bond fans have firm numbers to celebrate, players waiting for The Duskbloods still don’t have a confirmed release date.
Reports recently suggested FromSoftware’s upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive would launch on 24th September 2026. The date quickly attracted attention online, especially given the growing number of major games already targeting September.
Unfortunately, Nintendo says the date is inaccurate.
The confusion followed an article published by The Guardian, which originally listed The Duskbloods for 24th September. However, Nintendo subsequently clarified that no official release date has been announced. The Guardian then amended its article and removed the date.
Therefore, players shouldn’t circle 24th September on their calendars just yet.
The important point is that this does not necessarily mean The Duskbloods has been delayed. Instead, the September date was never officially announced in the first place.
For now, fans will simply have to wait.
The Duskbloods has attracted considerable attention because it represents another major project from FromSoftware. However, unlike Elden Ring and Dark Souls, the game has a stronger multiplayer focus.
Its Nintendo Switch 2 exclusivity also makes it particularly important for Nintendo’s newer hardware.
Until Nintendo or FromSoftware announces a firm date, any specific release dates circulating online should be treated cautiously.
Gaming World News: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Beta Begins Today

Meanwhile, Call of Duty fans have something much more concrete to look forward to.
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Early Access Beta begins today, 21st August, giving players their first substantial hands-on opportunity with Infinity Ward’s next instalment.
Early Access officially starts at 11am PT on 21st August and continues until 10am PT on 25th August. Players who have pre-ordered or pre-purchased Modern Warfare 4 on supported platforms can participate, while eligible retail pre-orders can access the beta using a redemption code.
Players can expect a selection of multiplayer maps, weapons and modes during Weekend One.
The beta includes traditional 6v6 multiplayer alongside Kill Block, giving the community an early opportunity to test Modern Warfare 4’s gunplay and systems. Interestingly, the beta also features the single-player campaign mission Entrenched.
Pre-loading has already started on supported platforms.
However, Nintendo Switch 2 owners will need to wait slightly longer. The platform joins the action during the Open Beta rather than today’s Early Access period.
Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta Comes Next Week
Players who haven’t pre-ordered won’t be left behind for long.
The Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta begins on 28th August at 10am PT and runs until 1st September. Crucially, no pre-order or beta code will be required for Weekend Two.
This second weekend also expands the available content.
Players will get access to Ground War: Combat Outpost, while Call of Duty: Warzone will introduce the new Zodiac Resurgence map as part of the beta experience. Progression also carries between the two beta weekends for players participating in both.
The beta is therefore more than a promotional preview.
Infinity Ward will be able to collect feedback, examine balance and identify technical problems before the full game’s launch. The studio has described the beta as an opportunity for the community to help shape Modern Warfare 4.
With Call of Duty remaining one of gaming’s biggest franchises, plenty of eyes will be watching.
Gaming World News Final Thoughts
From blockbuster sales to release-date confusion and one of the year’s biggest betas, the latest gaming world news offers plenty to talk about.
007 First Light reaching four million copies represents another impressive achievement for IO Interactive. The studio has successfully taken its stealth-action expertise and transformed it into a commercially successful Bond adventure.
Meanwhile, The Duskbloods remains surrounded by mystery. September 24th is officially off the table unless Nintendo and FromSoftware say otherwise.
Finally, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is about to face one of its biggest tests yet. Thousands of players will soon be putting its maps, weapons, movement and multiplayer systems through their paces.
With the Open Beta following next week, the conversation surrounding Modern Warfare 4 is only getting started.
