Gaming World News: Highlights from the Last 48 Hours
The gaming industry has delivered another huge wave of headlines over the past two days. From terrifying new Resident Evil chaos to Nintendo’s controversial Switch 2 price increase, players have plenty to discuss. Meanwhile, Path of Exile 2 is finally nearing full release, while Xbox continues teasing its next-generation future.
Here are the biggest gaming stories making waves right now.
Gaming World News: Resident Evil Requiem’s New Mode Looks Absolutely Brutal
Capcom has released a brand-new free mode for Resident Evil Requiem, and it looks completely unforgiving.
The update, titled “Leon Must Die Forever”, throws players into relentless combat scenarios packed with aggressive enemies and limited resources. Survival becomes far more difficult, with chaos replacing the slower, tactical pacing many players are used to.
Gameplay clips already circulating online show frantic shootouts, packed rooms of infected enemies, and constant pressure from every direction. Fans are comparing the mode to classic arcade survival experiences mixed with modern horror intensity.
Importantly, the mode is available as a free download. That decision has earned Capcom plenty of praise from the community.
The update also highlights how survival horror continues dominating gaming conversations. Players clearly still want tension, fear, and replayability, and Resident Evil Requiem appears to deliver all three.
Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Price Increase
Nintendo has officially announced that the Switch 2 will become more expensive in several regions from 1st September.
The updated pricing includes:
- US: from $449.99 to $499.99
- Canada: from $629.99 to $679.99
- Europe: from €469.99 to €499.99
The news has sparked mixed reactions online. Some players understand the rising costs affecting the gaming industry, while others worry Nintendo is moving too close to premium console pricing.
For years, Nintendo has positioned itself as the more affordable option compared to PlayStation and Xbox. However, the Switch 2 approaching the $500 mark changes that perception significantly.
Even so, excitement around the console remains high. Rumours surrounding upgraded performance, stronger visuals, and improved third-party support continue generating hype.
Nintendo now faces the challenge of proving the hardware upgrade truly justifies the higher cost.
Gaming World News: Path of Exile 2 Targets Full Launch This Year
Grinding Gear Games says Path of Exile 2 is still aiming for a full 1.0 release later this year. However, not every planned character class will be ready at launch.
While some fans are disappointed, many players seem happy the studio is prioritising stability and polish over rushing unfinished content.
Path of Exile 2 remains one of the most anticipated RPG releases in years. The sequel promises upgraded visuals, improved combat, and deeper progression systems while building on the strengths of the original game.
The ARPG market has become extremely competitive recently. Diablo IV continues evolving, while several smaller RPGs are attracting large audiences. That means Path of Exile 2 needs a strong launch to maintain momentum.
Still, the decision to stagger some content could help the game remain fresh long after release.
Xbox Says More Next-Gen News Is Coming Later This Year
Xbox has once again teased its next-generation plans with another look at Project Helix, the reported successor to the Xbox Series X and Series S.
However, many viewers noticed the presentation mostly repeated information from Microsoft’s earlier GDC showcase.
Despite that, Xbox confirmed more next-generation details are arriving later this year. That statement alone has reignited speculation across the gaming community.
Project Helix is expected to focus heavily on AI integration, cloud technology, and expanded gaming ecosystems rather than just raw hardware power.
Microsoft appears determined to build a platform that stretches beyond traditional console gaming. Game Pass, cloud streaming, PC integration, and AI-driven systems are all expected to play major roles moving forward.
For now, players are still waiting for concrete details, including hardware specs, launch windows, and exclusive games.
Gaming World News Final Thoughts
The past 48 hours have shown just how quickly the gaming world continues evolving.
Resident Evil Requiem is leaning into chaotic replayability. Nintendo is adjusting to rising hardware costs. Path of Exile 2 is balancing ambition with stability. Meanwhile, Xbox is preparing for the next era of gaming technology.
One thing is clear. The second half of the year could be massive for the industry.
