Gaming World News: Diablo 5 Details Emerge and More
The gaming industry rarely stays quiet for long, and the latest Gaming World News brings another packed selection of announcements. Blizzard has been particularly busy following BlizzCon 2026, while Ubisoft and IO Interactive have both confirmed delays to upcoming releases.
One of the biggest talking points surrounds the future of World of Warcraft. With World of Warcraft: Forever now part of Blizzard’s plans, questions about a potential WoW 2 have inevitably returned.
Elsewhere, Diablo 5 continues to emerge as a much more ambitious sequel than some players may have expected. Meanwhile, Rayman Legends Retold has slipped further into 2026, and Nintendo Switch 2 owners face an even longer wait for 007 First Light.
Here are the biggest stories making headlines over the last 48 hours.
Blizzard Questions the Need for World of Warcraft 2

For years, World of Warcraft players have wondered whether Blizzard could eventually replace its legendary MMORPG with a full sequel. However, the arrival of World of Warcraft: Forever appears to make a traditional WoW 2 less necessary.
Blizzard principal designer Kris Zierhut has discussed why starting again may not offer the advantages some players expect. World of Warcraft has continuously evolved throughout its long lifespan. Its graphics, lighting, rendering technology, servers and underlying systems have all been improved over time.
Rather than abandoning that foundation, Blizzard appears focused on continuing to develop what it already has.
World of Warcraft: Forever adds another dimension to that strategy. The project takes the familiar foundations of early World of Warcraft and expands them with new areas, quests, dungeons and additional content.
As a result, Blizzard can revisit the experience that originally attracted millions of players without creating an entirely separate numbered sequel.
There is also the technical side to consider. Blizzard has spent decades refining World of Warcraft’s engine and infrastructure. Starting again would mean rebuilding systems that have already benefited from years of development and optimisation.
That does not mean WoW 2 could never happen. However, Blizzard’s current approach suggests evolution remains the priority.
Rayman Legends Retold Delayed Until December

Rayman fans will need to wait a little longer for Rayman Legends Retold.
Ubisoft has moved the game’s release date from 1st October to 3rd December 2026. Interestingly, the delay comes despite the game having already gone gold.
Ubisoft Montpellier explained that the additional development time will allow the team to give every element of the remake the attention it needs. A new game overview trailer is also scheduled for 22nd September, alongside fresh hands-on impressions.
The timing of the delay is notable. The closing months of 2026 are crowded with major releases, making competition for players’ time particularly intense.
However, Ubisoft’s stated reason focuses on polishing the experience rather than avoiding other games.
Rayman Legends Retold is heading to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Therefore, the delay affects players across all three console platforms.
It is disappointing news for those planning to jump in during October. Nevertheless, two additional months could give the development team valuable time to address remaining issues before launch.
Diablo 5 Looks Like Much More Than Diablo 4.5

The dust is still settling following the reveal of Diablo 5 at BlizzCon 2026, but additional details are beginning to show how substantial Blizzard’s next action RPG could become.
Diablo 5 is currently targeting spring 2029, and its setting represents a significant departure from Diablo 4.
The story takes place roughly 100 years later. More importantly, players are entering a Sanctuary where the battle against evil has already gone catastrophically wrong.
Diablo has won.
Instead of attempting to prevent an apocalypse, players will explore its aftermath. That premise gives Blizzard an opportunity to dramatically reshape Sanctuary and the structure surrounding its familiar action-RPG gameplay.
Gameplay information revealed around BlizzCon points towards procedurally generated dungeons, a larger selection of playable classes and a loot system influenced by Diablo 2. Blizzard is also planning more classes than previous entries in the series.
Another major change is the absence of traditional safe towns.
Instead, players will travel alongside a caravan of companions, effectively creating a mobile base of operations. These characters are intended to bring more personality and narrative depth to the player’s journey.
Diablo 5 narrative director Jennifer Hepler has experience working on the Dragon Age franchise. That background appears to be influencing the way Blizzard approaches companions and storytelling in its next Diablo game.
The companions will not function exactly like a traditional party-based RPG. However, the system could introduce stronger relationships and more meaningful character interactions than players have traditionally experienced in Diablo.
The sequel will also introduce new classes alongside returning favourites. Details revealed so far point towards characters including the Demon Hunter, Monk and new Plague Knight.
Consequently, describing Diablo 5 as simply an upgraded Diablo 4 increasingly feels inaccurate.
There are still years of development ahead. Features can change significantly during that time. Even so, Blizzard’s early plans suggest the studio wants Diablo 5 to establish its own identity rather than simply refine its predecessor.
007 First Light Suffers Another Switch 2 Delay

Finally, Nintendo Switch 2 players hoping to experience 007 First Light this year have received disappointing news.
IO Interactive has pushed the Switch 2 edition into March 2027. An exact release date has not yet been announced.
The additional development time will be used to improve performance on Nintendo’s hardware.
007 First Light has already launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, meaning Switch 2 owners will now receive the game considerably later than players on other platforms.
However, IO Interactive says development continues to progress. The studio highlighted positive feedback from its Gamescom showing, while the same playable demonstration is heading to Tokyo Game Show.
Optimising ambitious third-party games for portable hardware can present additional technical challenges. Therefore, the extra time could prove important if it results in a smoother final release.
For now, Bond’s Switch 2 mission will have to wait until 2027.
Gaming World News Final Thoughts
The latest Gaming World News demonstrates just how quickly the industry is moving following BlizzCon 2026.
Blizzard is simultaneously looking backwards and forwards. World of Warcraft: Forever builds upon decades of MMORPG history, while Diablo 5 is preparing to push one of the company’s biggest franchises into a very different future.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft is taking additional time with Rayman Legends Retold, and IO Interactive is prioritising further optimisation for 007 First Light on Switch 2.
Delays are never the news players want to hear. Yet both projects now have additional development time before reaching their respective platforms.
With more Diablo 5 information expected throughout its lengthy development and Blizzard continuing to expand the World of Warcraft universe, there will be plenty more to watch over the coming months.
