Gaming World News: Aion 2’s Huge Launch and More
It has been another packed 48 hours across the gaming industry. This time, an upcoming MMO is grabbing plenty of attention before its worldwide launch.
Aion 2 is building serious momentum as it prepares to reach more players around the world. Elsewhere, 007 First Lighthas expanded with a major free update, while Krafton has pulled the plug on PUBG: Black Budget.
PlayStation has also revealed its PS Plus October 2026 games, and a former Halo lead has shared ideas about where the legendary shooter series could head next.
Here are the biggest stories in our latest Gaming World News round-up.
Aion 2 Builds Momentum Ahead of Worldwide Release

Aion 2 could be heading towards a significant moment as its worldwide rollout continues.
The MMORPG builds upon the world established by the original Aion, which first launched in South Korea in 2008 before arriving in Western markets the following year. The sequel brings the series into a very different MMO landscape, where competition for players is intense.
However, early interest suggests Aion 2 has the potential to find a sizeable audience.
The game has already attracted considerable attention on Steam around its Western release. That matters because MMOs live and die by their communities. A strong influx of players gives Aion 2 an opportunity to establish an active player base from the beginning.
There is still plenty to prove.
Big launch numbers do not automatically translate into long-term success. Player retention, endgame content, progression and post-launch support will ultimately determine whether gamers stick around.
Nevertheless, Aion 2 enters its next phase with plenty of eyes on it. If that early interest carries into its wider availability, it could become one of the MMO stories worth watching closely.
007 First Light Expands With Free New Content

Bond is back in action, with 007 First Light receiving a substantial free content update.
IO Interactive’s latest additions include New Game Plus and Photo Mode, giving existing players new reasons to revisit the campaign. New Game Plus is particularly welcome for anyone wanting another run through Bond’s story after completing it for the first time.
However, the update goes beyond replay features.
New TacSim missions have also been introduced, expanding the challenges available to players. The free Extended Operations content additionally brings the new 00 difficulty setting, fresh weapons and outfits, alongside numerous fixes and improvements.
Photo Mode should also prove popular with players who enjoy capturing cinematic moments. Considering the environments, action sequences and unmistakable Bond aesthetic, there should be plenty of opportunities for impressive screenshots.
The update strengthens the game’s post-launch offering without putting the new additions behind another purchase.
For players who have already finished Bond’s latest mission, there is now much more reason to return.
Krafton Cancels PUBG: Black Budget

While 007 First Light is expanding, another multiplayer project will never make it to full release.
Krafton has ended development of PUBG: Black Budget, less than a year after the game was officially announced.
Black Budget was designed as an extraction shooter set within the wider PUBG universe. The concept would have placed players into dangerous PvPvE environments where survival and successful extraction were central to the experience.
However, the project has now been cancelled.
The decision is particularly interesting given the continued popularity of extraction-based multiplayer games. The genre has attracted considerable investment as publishers attempt to establish their own long-running experiences.
At the same time, competition is fierce.
Launching another live multiplayer shooter means competing for both players’ time and long-term engagement. Simply carrying an established franchise name is no guarantee of success.
Black Budget’s cancellation means we will never see how PUBG’s gameplay formula would have translated into its planned extraction-focused experience.
PS Plus October 2026 Games Confirmed

PlayStation players also have three new monthly games heading their way.
Sony has officially confirmed the PlayStation Plus October 2026 games, with all three becoming available on 6th October. Subscribers will have until 2nd November to add them to their libraries.
The October line-up consists of:
- F1 25 – PS5
- Hunt: Showdown 1896 – PS5
- Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 – PS5 and PS4
There is a decent amount of variety here.
F1 25 gives racing fans the official game of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship. Career and My Team 2.0 provide single-player options, while multiplayer gives players another route onto the grid.
Meanwhile, Hunt: Showdown 1896 offers something much darker.
Crytek’s extraction shooter combines competitive multiplayer with dangerous supernatural enemies. Players hunt down bosses, secure their bounty and then attempt to extract before rival Hunters stop them.
Finally, Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 delivers chaotic battles against huge numbers of enemies within its distinctive voxel world. Four-player online co-op and two-player local split-screen are supported.
All three games will be available to PlayStation Plus members from 6th October.
Former Halo Lead Shares Ideas for the Franchise’s Future

The future of Halo has also been a talking point over the last 48 hours.
A former Halo lead has discussed several ways the franchise could potentially move forward, including ideas around what a revived Halo experience might look like.
One particularly notable suggestion involved recruiting experienced developers who have recently lost their jobs, including former Bungie staff.
That could bring developers with deep experience in first-person shooters and, potentially, the Halo lineage itself back into the mix.
Of course, these comments are suggestions rather than confirmed plans for Halo. They should not be taken as an indication of what will actually happen next.
However, they highlight the bigger challenge surrounding the series.
Halo remains one of gaming’s most recognisable shooter franchises. Any future direction therefore has to balance its established identity with the expectations of a modern audience.
Whether that means returning more closely to Halo’s roots or taking the series somewhere different remains to be seen.
Gaming World News Final Thoughts
This latest Gaming World News round-up shows just how quickly things can change across the industry.
Aion 2 is building momentum, while 007 First Light continues to grow after launch. At the same time, PUBG: Black Budget has disappeared from Krafton’s plans before reaching players.
PlayStation Plus subscribers also have three very different games arriving this October, while discussion continues around what the next chapter of Halo could look like.
For now, Aion 2’s worldwide push is the story to watch. The next challenge is turning launch interest into a community that stays for the long haul.
