I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that there would never be a Warzone 2 but here we are! Excited is an understatement. Officially known as Warzone 2.0 it aims to build on the current foundation of the current version while addressing flaws with a helping hand from new technology, an enhanced engine and a clearer vision.

Here’s what we know about Warzone 2.0 so far

The release window is in 2022 which combats previous rumours which suggested a 2023 launch so we’ll get to play it sooner than we first expected. An official release date has not been confirmed but we’re guessing late 2022, Nov or Dec.

What platforms can you play Warzone 2 on?

Again, despite rumours suggesting they would be leaving the last generation behind Activision has confirmed that Warzone 2.0 will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Whilst this is good news for old-gen console owners, these consoles do struggle to run Warzone compared to newer gen. We can imagine many players hope that the game isn’t sacrificed to accommodate this.

Who’s the lead developer for Warzone 2?

Just like the current battle royale, Infinity Ward is leading development as well as the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 remaster. Whether Activision will continue to develop Warzone 2.0 after launch is currently unknown they may pass it over to Raven Software but considering how important the new Warzone is going to be they are likely to want to be at the reigns.

Progression and cosmetics

It’s the news we all know but hate to hear… Sadly your progression and cosmetics will not carry over. Activision has said that Warzone 2 is being developed as a totally separate experience from Warzone and wants everyone to start off on the same foot.

It’s possible that they may revisit this decision later down the line allowing you to transfer cosmetics but I believe these will be the only transferable items.

NPCs are said to play a role

They are expected to be added but don’t expect a friendly howdy-do as you may in Fortnite. Mark Grigsby has confirmed the AI bots will be “lethal” but it’s not confirmed as to what role they will play, he teased, “protect areas that have cool things,”. So from this, we can image AI’s protecting strongholds with custom load-outs.
