Rematch: The Review – Chaos, Style & Pure Football Madness

Rematch: The Review – Chaos, Style & Pure Football Madness

Forget everything you thought you knew about football games.

Rematch isn’t FIFA. It’s not PES and it’s not trying to be. It’s louder, wilder, and way more fun. Made by the legends behind Sifu and Absolver, this surprise footy drop is part street-style showdown, part arcade chaos — and we’re totally here for it.

So, what makes Rematch the game everyone’s talking about in 2025? Buckle up. Here’s our full breakdown. Spoiler: it’s not just the Ronaldinho skins.

What Even Is Rematch?

A player in red winds up for a powerful shot on goal during a high-stakes Rematch video game scene, as blue team defenders close in.

Rematch is a third-person, team-based football game that throws realism out the window — and thank goodness. It’s available on Steam now and absolutely buzzing with energy.

No rules, no VAR and no offside flags. Just pure 3v3, 4v4, or sweaty 5v5 matches in enclosed arenas where everything goes. It’s football, but on Red Bull.

You’re in control of one player. You dribble, pass, shoot, and scrap to score. Add a wild rematch mechanic, fast respawns, and chaotic energy that doesn’t stop — and you’ve got one of the freshest football games in years.

Gameplay – Fast, Fluid, FUN

Let’s cut to it. Rematch plays beautifully.

It’s responsive. It’s tight. You feel every twist, slide, and bullet pass. Whether you’re solo queueing or teaming up with your mates, the gameplay SLAPS.

Here’s what we loved:

  • It’s super easy to pick up.

  • Every match lasts 5 minutes max. No time wasted.

  • You’ll be screaming for a rematch after every loss.

Add to that a clean UI, smooth transitions, and pitch-side banter that keeps you locked in.

Oh, and did we mention there’s no fouls? No yellow cards? Just vibes and victory.

Game Modes – Pick Your Chaos

You’ve got options, and they’re all spicy.

  • 3v3 & 4v4: Quick matches, perfect for dropping in and showing off.

  • 5v5 Ranked: This is where the sweat lives. Think FUT Champs energy but fun.

  • Custom Lobbies: Want to dunk on your mates? Build your own madness.

We’re still waiting on offline modes and AI bots, but what’s here is already solid gold. Sloclap (the devs) have big things planned — seasonal content, new arenas, and yes, a proper punishment system for toxic players.

Visuals & Vibes – Style OVER Everything

A footballer in red prepares to shoot in Rematch, set against a vibrant futuristic cityscape with glowing skyscrapers and neon-lit stadium arches.

Rematch looks cool. Like… effortlessly cool.

Bold colours. Clean player animations. Electric lighting. The whole thing screams “pick me for your next stream.” It gives us serious arcade-meets-street-football vibes.

And when it comes to customisation? Oh, they went big:

  • Ronaldinho x Puma kits

  • Ter Stegen gear

  • Even Balenciaga fits (yes, really)

It’s part football sim, part fashion flex. And we’re obsessed.

Online Play – Bring Your A-Game

This is where the hype (and the heartbreak) happens.

Online matchmaking is fast and mostly fair. There’s no crossplay (yet), but the devs are on it. Ranked mode already has a solid player base, and casual lobbies are always full of chaos.

But heads up – the netcode isn’t perfect. You will see a few teleporting balls and sketchy lags. It’s a work in progress.

Still, when it clicks? It’s magic. Pure 5v5 madness.

Microtransactions – Good Looks, Bad Vibes?

Look. We love the cosmetics.

But… there’s a shop, a premium currency, and a battle pass. In a paid game. Yikes.

We’re not mad — just a bit disappointed. It feels a little mobile-gamey, especially when you’ve dropped cash upfront. We’d rather unlock the drip through grinding, not buying.

That said, the cosmetics go hard. So if you’re down to spend, you’ll look great doing it.

What Needs Work

Alright, let’s be real. Rematch isn’t perfect (yet).

Here’s where it stumbles:

  • Netcode can ruin the fun.

  • Keyboard & mouse support = trash (just use a controller).

  • No offline mode = bad news for solo grinders.

  • Microtransactions in a full-price game? Not ideal.

But to be fair? Sloclap knows. And they’re fixing it. Fast.

Devs Are Listening

Shoutout to Sloclap for actually giving a damn.

They’ve already:

  • Promised a full in-game report system.

  • Introduced bans for own-goal griefers (LOL).

  • Started cracking down on cheaters.

  • Teased a spectator mode, future content, and more maps.

This game is growing fast, and the devs are treating it like a long-term project. We love to see it.

Final Thoughts

Rematch doesn’t just break the mould — it dropkicks it straight into row Z.

This game is chaotic. It’s stylish. And most importantly, it’s fun.

Sure, it’s got some rough edges. However, when everything clicks, it delivers one of the most exciting online experiences of the year. From lightning-fast matchmaking to last-second screamers, it knows how to keep you hooked.

Whether you’re chasing ranked glory or just having a laugh with your mates, Rematch gives you a reason to come back. Even better, Sloclap seems genuinely invested. They’re listening, patching, and pushing updates regularly — a rare win in 2025.

Although the journey has just started, the foundation is strong. With the right updates, this could easily become a modern multiplayer classic.

You’ll rage. You’ll cheer. But most of all? You’ll hit rematch.

Because let’s face it — one game is never enough.
