Beast of Reincarnation Review: A Bold Action RPG

Beast of Reincarnation Review: A Bold Action RPG

Game Freak has spent decades building its reputation through Pokémon, but Beast of Reincarnation takes the studio in a very different direction. This atmospheric action RPG blends challenging combat with emotional storytelling, placing players in a beautifully broken world filled with mystery, danger and hope.

In this Beast of Reincarnation review, we explore what makes the game so compelling, where it falls short and why it could become one of the year’s standout action RPGs.

A Beautiful Yet Dangerous World

One of the first things that stands out in Beast of Reincarnation is its setting. The game transports players to a distant future where nature has reclaimed the remains of civilisation. Ancient cities sit beneath forests, while a mysterious corruption threatens everything that still survives.

Rather than relying on dark and gloomy environments throughout, the developers have created a world full of contrast. Bright landscapes are interrupted by unsettling signs of decay, giving every area its own identity. This balance keeps exploration interesting from beginning to end.

There is also plenty to discover away from the main path. Hidden routes, optional encounters and environmental details reward curious players. As a result, exploration feels worthwhile instead of simply serving as a route to the next objective.

Combat That Rewards Precision

The biggest strength of Beast of Reincarnation is undoubtedly its combat.

Every battle demands concentration. Success comes from learning enemy movements, dodging at the right moment and striking when opportunities appear. Timing is far more important than rushing into every encounter, making each victory feel genuinely earned.

As Emma grows stronger, new abilities allow players to adapt their fighting style. Whether you prefer aggressive attacks or a more measured approach, there is enough flexibility to keep combat fresh throughout the adventure.

Emma’s canine companion, Koo, also plays an important role. Rather than simply following the player, Koo becomes an active part of both exploration and combat, creating a partnership that feels meaningful throughout the journey.

Boss encounters are especially memorable. Each introduces different mechanics that force players to stay alert, ensuring every major battle feels distinct from the last.

An Emotional Story With Strong Characters

While many action RPGs focus almost entirely on gameplay, Beast of Reincarnation spends plenty of time developing its story.

Emma’s mission is not simply about defeating powerful enemies. It is also about understanding the world around her, confronting difficult truths and protecting what little hope remains. Her journey gradually becomes more personal as new characters and unexpected revelations shape the narrative.

Koo provides much of the game’s emotional heart. The bond between the pair develops naturally, giving players plenty of reasons to become invested in their adventure.

Themes such as sacrifice, survival and resilience run throughout the story without becoming overly dramatic. Although some plot points are predictable, the narrative remains engaging thanks to its strong character relationships and thoughtful pacing.

Stunning Visual Design

Visually, Beast of Reincarnation delivers some impressive moments.

The environments are packed with detail, combining lush forests, abandoned buildings and strange creatures into a world that constantly captures attention. Every location feels handcrafted, encouraging players to stop and appreciate the scenery before continuing forward.

Lighting also plays a significant role. Peaceful landscapes quickly transform into unsettling environments whenever the corruption begins to spread, reinforcing the game’s darker themes without relying on excessive horror.

Creature designs deserve praise too. Many enemies feel unique, while the larger bosses provide spectacular set-piece encounters that leave a lasting impression.

The soundtrack complements the experience equally well. Calm orchestral music supports quieter moments, while dramatic scores raise the intensity during major battles.

A Few Areas Could Be Better

Despite its many strengths, Beast of Reincarnation is not without flaws.

Enemy variety becomes less exciting during longer play sessions, with several familiar opponents appearing repeatedly throughout the adventure. More unique enemy types would have helped maintain the sense of discovery.

The pacing occasionally slows as well. Certain story sections linger longer than necessary, slightly interrupting the momentum built by the game’s excellent combat.

Performance may also vary depending on your platform, with occasional technical issues appearing during more demanding sequences. While these moments are not constant, they can briefly interrupt an otherwise polished experience.

Fortunately, none of these issues are significant enough to overshadow what the game does well.

Final Verdict

This Beast of Reincarnation review shows that Game Freak has successfully stepped into new territory with confidence.

The game combines rewarding combat, memorable boss battles, beautiful environments and heartfelt storytelling into an adventure that feels both fresh and familiar. While it borrows inspiration from other action RPGs, it also establishes its own identity through its world, characters and emotional tone.

Players looking for fast-paced combat, satisfying exploration and an engaging narrative will find plenty to enjoy. Although there are a few rough edges, the overall package is consistently entertaining from start to finish.

If you enjoy action RPGs that reward skill while telling a meaningful story, Beast of Reincarnation deserves a place on your gaming radar. It may be a surprising release from Game Freak, but it proves the studio is capable of far more than many players expected.
