GTA 6 Map Breakdown: Exploring Every Region of Leonida

The GTA 6 map is shaping up to be one of Rockstar Games’ most diverse open worlds yet. From the neon-lit streets of Vice City to dangerous swamps, tropical islands and rugged wilderness, Grand Theft Auto 6 is taking exploration beyond the familiar city limits.

Set in the fictional state of Leonida, inspired by Florida, GTA 6 introduces six major regions. Each brings its own atmosphere, landscapes and opportunities for exploration.

But what makes these locations stand out, and what can players expect when they finally explore Leonida?

GTA 6 Map: A Closer Look at Leonida

Unlike GTA 5, which centred on Los Santos and its surrounding countryside, GTA 6 expands into a state featuring several distinctive environments.

Rockstar has officially revealed six major regions: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.

Together, they create a world filled with urban streets, coastal communities, wetlands, industrial towns and forests.

Although the complete map layout remains unconfirmed, the locations revealed so far suggest environmental variety will be a major part of the experience.

Vice City: The Return of an Icon

Vice City is back, bringing its unmistakable Miami-inspired atmosphere into a new generation of Grand Theft Auto.

Expect towering skyscrapers, luxury waterfront properties, packed beaches and colourful nightlife. However, the city also features less glamorous neighbourhoods, highlighting the contrast between wealth and everyday life.

Areas such as Ocean Beach and Little Cuba showcase Vice City’s personality, while its busy streets appear filled with activity.

For longtime fans, returning to Vice City is a major attraction. Yet this time, the iconic location forms just one part of Leonida’s wider landscape.

Leonida Keys: Tropical Islands and Coastal Adventures

Away from the city, the Leonida Keys introduce a completely different environment.

Inspired by the Florida Keys, this tropical region features sandy beaches, clear waters, marinas and island communities.

Boats and jet skis feature in the coastal setting, while marine wildlife adds another layer of detail.

The islands also have connections to protagonist Jason Duval, suggesting they could play an important role in the story.

With waterways separating different areas, travelling by boat could become particularly useful when exploring this part of the GTA 6 map.

Grassrivers: Swamps, Alligators and Wild Encounters

Grassrivers brings the dangerous wetlands of Florida’s Everglades into the GTA universe.

Dense vegetation, muddy waterways and isolated settlements give the region a distinctive atmosphere.

Alligators are among the wildlife showcased in official footage, while airboats provide a way to navigate the swamps.

Unlike Vice City’s busy roads, Grassrivers offers a more unpredictable landscape.

Furthermore, its remote setting could create interesting opportunities for exploration and unusual encounters.

Although Rockstar has not confirmed every activity available here, the region promises a welcome change from traditional city-based gameplay.

Port Gellhorn: A Forgotten Coastal Town

Port Gellhorn presents a rougher side of Leonida.

Once associated with tourism, the coastal destination now features ageing motels, neglected attractions and struggling communities.

Its run-down surroundings contrast sharply with Vice City’s glamorous waterfront.

The area also appears connected to Leonida’s criminal underworld, making it an intriguing setting for GTA’s storytelling.

With industrial areas and open roads nearby, Port Gellhorn adds another distinctive environment to the map.

Ambrosia: Industry and Biker Territory

GTA 6 screenshot showing Ambrosia's rural landscape at sunset, with burning fields, electricity pylons, industrial buildings and dramatic golden skies.

Ambrosia introduces players to Leonida’s industrial heartland.

Factories, agricultural landscapes and working communities define the region, with the Allied Crystal sugar refinery serving as a prominent landmark.

The area also features a biker presence, raising questions about possible gang-related storylines.

However, specific missions and criminal activities remain unconfirmed.

Ambrosia demonstrates how Rockstar is moving beyond beaches and skyscrapers to create a world with contrasting communities.

Mount Kalaga National Park: Exploring the Wilderness

GTA 6 screenshot showing a cougar stalking deer beside a woodland stream in Mount Kalaga National Park, surrounded by dense forest and lush greenery in Leonida.

For players who enjoy escaping the city, Mount Kalaga National Park offers forests, rivers, hills and rugged trails.

The wilderness setting features wildlife, including deer and cougars, alongside outdoor activities such as kayaking and dirt biking.

Its natural landscapes could appeal to fans of Red Dead Redemption 2, particularly those who enjoy exploring remote locations.

Furthermore, the region introduces a different style of travel, with off-road routes replacing busy city streets.

While the full range of activities remains unknown, Mount Kalaga looks set to provide plenty of opportunities for adventure.

GTA 6 Wildlife and Environmental Variety

One of the biggest highlights of the GTA 6 map is its wildlife.

From alligators in Grassrivers to marine creatures around the Leonida Keys, Rockstar has showcased animals across several environments.

Meanwhile, Mount Kalaga introduces woodland wildlife, helping distinguish its wilderness from the coastal regions.

These details could make exploring Leonida feel more immersive.

However, Rockstar has not fully explained how wildlife encounters or hunting mechanics will function.

How Does the GTA 6 Map Compare to GTA 5?

GTA 5 delivered a memorable combination of city streets, mountains, deserts and countryside.

However, GTA 6 appears to place greater emphasis on distinct regional identities.

Vice City offers urban chaos, while Grassrivers introduces dangerous wetlands. Meanwhile, Leonida Keys provides tropical coastlines, and Mount Kalaga brings wilderness exploration.

Although fans have attempted to estimate the map’s size, Rockstar has not confirmed its exact dimensions.

Ultimately, the variety of environments could prove more important than the total area.

Final Thoughts: Rockstar’s Most Varied GTA Map Yet?

The GTA 6 map is already one of the game’s biggest talking points, and the six revealed regions explain why.

From Vice City’s nightlife to the swamps of Grassrivers and the forests of Mount Kalaga, Leonida offers an impressive range of environments.

While questions remain about the complete map and available activities, Rockstar has clearly put environmental variety at the centre of its new open world.

With GTA 6 scheduled for 19th November 2026, players are getting closer to exploring Leonida for themselves.
