Gaming World News: Highlights from the Last 48 Hours

The gaming world never sleeps—and the last 48 hours have been packed with wild reveals, surprise success stories, and platform shake-ups you won’t want to miss. From Larian’s cryptic tease of a “crazy” new game to the growing buzz around Grounded 2’s unexpected live-service twist, there’s something here for every gamer. Oh, and PlayStation Plus users? You’ve got 48 hours to snag Diablo 4. Yes, really. Let’s dive straight into the gaming world news that’s turning heads right now.

Larian Studios Teases a “Crazy” New Project

When Larian speaks, the RPG world listens.

Fresh off the roaring success of Baldur’s Gate 3, the team behind one of the most celebrated RPGs of the modern era is already looking ahead. But instead of playing it safe with another swords-and-sorcery epic, they’re cooking up something very different.

Larian has teased their next title will “deliver fun in surprising ways” and be a “crazy” project that strays far from the turn-based RPG template they’ve become known for. This isn’t just a genre pivot—it’s sounding like a full creative reset.

They’ve confirmed it won’t be Baldur’s Gate 4 and it won’t follow the Divinity path either. This is something brand new.

Why the shift? Studio head Swen Vincke noted that Larian wants to “make the kind of games that keep us excited,” even if that means throwing the playbook out the window. Considering how Baldur’s Gate 3 dominated awards and headlines, you’d think they’d double down. But no—Larian’s aiming to shock us again.

With anticipation building and barely a hint of what’s coming, all eyes are on what could be one of the boldest creative leaps in modern gaming. And if BG3 taught us anything, it’s this: trust Larian.

Gaming World News: Grounded 2 Smashes Expectations

Grounded 2 is proving that not every live-service game has to be a bloated, microtransaction-heavy grind fest. Obsidian’s backyard survival sequel is flipping expectations on their head.

Within hours of its early access launch on Steam, Grounded 2 shattered the original’s peak concurrent player record. But it’s not just about numbers—it’s about how the game is engaging its player base.

Rather than loading the experience with expensive content passes or loot boxes, Obsidian has built a game around thoughtful progression, genuine updates, and that same quirky heart the first game nailed. The new title adds even more biome diversity, expanded crafting, and deeper co-op features, keeping the experience fresh without resorting to the usual monetisation traps.

In a world where live-service fatigue is very real, Grounded 2 offers a welcome reminder that great design still comes first. Gamers are responding with serious hype—and rightfully so.

Diablo 4 on PS Plus? You’ve Got 48 Hours!

Wait… Diablo 4 on a PlayStation Plus subscription? Yep, you’re not dreaming. But don’t sleep on it—this wild crossover is time-limited.

Until August 5th, PS Plus subscribers can claim Diablo 4 as part of their subscription, despite it being an Xbox-first title. It’s one of the more surprising moves in Sony’s recent push to spice up their subscription offering—and it’s getting players talking.

While it’s technically available via cloud streaming (which has its pros and cons), it still marks a rare moment of platform synergy we don’t see often. With Xbox’s continued expansion of Game Pass and cloud streaming infrastructure, Sony seems to be responding with some eyebrow-raising additions of their own.

If you’ve ever been Diablo-curious or just want to dive into demon-slaying chaos without forking out full price—this is your window.

Remember: claim it by August 5th or it’s gone.

Gaming World News: Switch 2 Storage Sparks Early Backlash

Nintendo might be ready to launch the next-gen Switch 2, but gamers already have a big concern—storage space.

Despite advancements in processing power and display, the system’s internal storage is rumoured to be just 256 GB. That’s barely enough to fit a handful of modern AAA games, especially as titles balloon in size thanks to day-one patches, texture packs, and digital add-ons.

And let’s not forget—Nintendo’s hybrid approach still relies heavily on physical cartridges. But even these often require mandatory downloads to function fully. Meaning? That internal space vanishes fast.

Gamers have been quick to voice frustration, especially as expandable storage via microSD cards can get pricey—and comes with slower read speeds compared to internal SSDs.

For a next-gen console in 2025, this is feeling like an old-gen misstep.

While Nintendo hasn’t officially responded to the growing backlash, the hope is that they’ll at least optimise game file sizes or offer robust cloud storage integration. Otherwise, we may see the Switch 2’s potential bottlenecked before it even truly launches.

What This All Means for the Gaming World

In just two days, we’ve seen:

  • One of the biggest RPG studios on the planet teasing a wild genre shift.

  • A live-service sequel breaking norms—and records.

  • A major Xbox title appearing on a PlayStation subscription.

  • And a new Nintendo console stumbling on the basics.

It’s a reminder of just how fast-paced—and unpredictable—the gaming world really is.

Whether you’re an RPG diehard, a survival co-op fan, or just someone trying to manage digital storage without deleting your whole library, there’s something here worth keeping an eye on.

And let’s be real… if the last 48 hours were this spicy, the next 48 could be even wilder.
