Gaming World News: Highlights from the Last 48 Hours

The gaming industry has delivered another huge wave of announcements over the last 48 hours. From the release date reveal for Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 4 to PlayStation Plus price increases and Ubisoft confirming new entries in major franchises, there is plenty for gamers to discuss.

Meanwhile, Sony has officially announced its next State of Play showcase, adding even more excitement ahead of Summer Games Fest season.

Here are the biggest gaming headlines you need to know.

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 4 Gets a Release Date

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 4 officially launches on 17th September this year, giving RTS fans a date to look forward to.

Developers also confirmed a Commander Edition that grants early access from 14th September. The new gameplay footage has already impressed fans thanks to its massive battles, dark atmosphere, and faithful recreation of the brutal Warhammer 40K universe.

Importantly, developers teased that more factions will arrive after launch. This suggests strong post-launch support for the highly anticipated RTS sequel.

The real-time strategy genre has seen renewed momentum recently. Because of that, many believe Dawn of War 4 could become one of the biggest strategy releases of 2026.

Gaming World News: PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra Prices Rise

Sony has now increased prices across all PlayStation Plus subscription tiers for new customers.

PlayStation Plus Extra now costs £11.99 per month in the UK, while Premium rises to £14.99 monthly. Three-month memberships have also increased in price.

Thankfully, annual subscriptions remain unchanged for now. However, many players are concerned further price hikes could follow later.

The reaction online has been mixed. Some players understand rising service costs, while others feel subscription gaming is becoming increasingly expensive.

Despite the backlash, PlayStation remains in a strong position thanks to the continued success of the PS5 and Sony’s exclusive game catalogue.

Ubisoft Confirms New Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Ghost Recon Games

Ubisoft has officially confirmed new Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Ghost Recon games are planned before April 2029.

The company also discussed ambitions involving AI-powered experiences and evolving game worlds, although details remain limited for now.

Naturally, Assassin’s Creed remains the biggest talking point. The franchise continues performing strongly worldwide, and fans are already eager to see what comes next.

Meanwhile, both Far Cry and Ghost Recon remain important parts of Ubisoft’s long-term plans as the company works to rebuild momentum following a difficult period financially.

Many gamers now expect more reveals during Summer Games Fest season.

Rumours are also circulating about possible reveals involving other major PlayStation franchises. As always, fans are hoping for a few surprises during the broadcast.

The showcase will stream live at 10pm BST on both Twitch and YouTube.
