Gaming World News: Final Fantasy VII Revelation and More
The last 48 hours have delivered a serious wave of gaming news, with Sony’s latest State of Play doing much of the heavy lifting.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation finally has a release date, while Square Enix has surprised players with a playable Final Fantasy Resonance demo. Elsewhere, Crimson Desert is heading beyond Pywel’s familiar shores with its first major DLC.
Then there’s GTA 6. Rockstar and Sony have revealed two limited-edition DualSense controllers ahead of the game’s November launch.
Here are the biggest Gaming World News highlights from the last 48 hours and, more importantly, why they matter.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Release Date Confirmed
Square Enix has finally put a date on the conclusion to its Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on 8th April 2027, bringing the ambitious three-game project towards its conclusion. The announcement arrived during Sony’s September State of Play alongside an extended gameplay presentation.
The latest footage provided a closer look at the scale Square Enix is aiming for. One of the standout additions is the Highwind, which players will be able to use to explore the world from the air.
For players who have followed Cloud and company through Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth, Revelation represents the final piece of a project that began years ago.
There is still plenty we do not know about how Square Enix will reinterpret the original game’s remaining events. However, the confirmed April release gives fans a firm date to work towards.
Gaming World News: Final Fantasy Resonance Gets a Surprise Demo
Final Fantasy fans didn’t just get Revelation news.
Square Enix also used State of Play to announce that a Final Fantasy Resonance demo is available now, giving players access to the entire first chapter. Even better, progress can be carried into the full release.
The opening chapter is expected to offer roughly three to five hours of gameplay. The demo is available across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and PC.
Resonance takes Final Fantasy in a different visual direction with an HD-2D presentation and turn-based combat. Its systems include jobs, Resonances and summonable Espers, combining familiar Final Fantasy ideas with a modernised approach.
There was another notable surprise in the latest trailer: Sephiroth.
The legendary villain appears as a challenge players can encounter, giving longtime Final Fantasy fans another reason to keep Resonance firmly on the radar.
The full game launches on 22nd October 2026, meaning the demo offers a substantial preview without a long wait for release.
Sony’s September State of Play Packs in the Announcements
Unsurprisingly, Final Fantasy wasn’t the only talking point.
Sony’s September State of Play offered a broad look at what is heading to PlayStation over the coming months and into 2027.
Among the standout reveals was Metro 2039, with 4A Games showing PS5 Pro gameplay and confirming a 4th February 2027 release date.
Until Dawn 2 also received more attention, with the horror sequel now scheduled for 28th January 2027. Meanwhile, Maneater 2 was revealed for 2027, bringing back the series’ unusual shark-based action RPG formula.
Dragon Ball fans also got a significant announcement with Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, currently planned for 2027.
Elsewhere, Sony showed more of Marvel’s Wolverine, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance and upcoming content for Gran Turismo 7.
The showcase wasn’t built around one enormous surprise. Instead, it gave players a much clearer picture of PlayStation’s upcoming pipeline.
With several major games now locked into early 2027, next year’s release calendar is already starting to look crowded.
Gaming World News: Crimson Desert Heads Out to Sea
Pearl Abyss also used State of Play to reveal the first DLC expansion for Crimson Desert.
Called Charting the Unknown, the expansion launches on 15th October 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a UK price of £19.99.
As the name suggests, exploration is at the heart of the expansion.
Players will be able to take control of their own ship, travel across the ocean and investigate previously uncharted islands. Exploration also extends below the surface, where underwater treasures, ruins and other mysteries await.
However, this isn’t simply a sightseeing expansion.
New enemies and battles are promised across both land and sea. Charting the Unknown will also introduce additional storylines and an upgraded housing system with more customisation options.
Players will even be able to rent and manage facilities as they build their fortune.
It looks like Pearl Abyss is using its first major expansion to push Crimson Desert’s already broad sandbox even further.
GTA 6 Gets Two Limited-Edition PS5 Controllers
Finally, GTA 6 made an appearance at State of Play – although perhaps not in the way some players expected.
Sony and Rockstar have officially unveiled two limited-edition Grand Theft Auto VI DualSense controllers.
There are Black and White Limited Editions, with both taking visual inspiration from Vice City.
The White edition draws from the city’s beaches, pastel skies and daytime aesthetic. The Black version instead leans into Vice City’s nightlife and neon glow. Both feature a colour-shifting finish, GTA 6 branding and palm tree detailing moulded directly into the controller.
Both controllers cost £74.99 in the UK and launch on 19th November, alongside GTA 6 itself.
Pre-orders begin on 10th September at 10am local time. However, availability differs between the two designs. The White edition will be sold through PlayStation Direct and participating retailers, while the Black edition will be exclusive to PlayStation Direct in supported markets.
For GTA collectors, these could become some of the most sought-after gaming accessories of the year.

From Final Fantasy VII Revelation finally receiving its release date to Rockstar giving GTA 6 fans some new hardware to chase, it has been a busy couple of days.
Sony’s State of Play also gave gamers a much stronger picture of what lies ahead. Crimson Desert is expanding, Final Fantasy Resonance can be played right now, and several major 2027 releases are beginning to fall into place.
With GTA 6 approaching in November and the 2027 calendar already filling up, there isn’t much room for the gaming news cycle to slow down.
