During yesterdays (27th May) anniversary stream, fans were given a quick teaser for the next 3D game in the Sonic series. Developed by Sonic Team, the announcement marked the first flagship game since Sonic Forces back in 2017. A title has yet to be decided but Sega has said it will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One. Xbox SeriesX/S at some point in 2022.
The extremely brief trailer for this game can be found at the very end of the video above.
Although very short, the trailer does provide some small teases. Sonic is speeding through a forest but there is a hint that there may be more to this place than meets the eye. While Sonic is speeding through the wooded area a trail of strange colours seem to be appearing and disappearing behind him. It’s almost like a technology circuit board which could be a new trail or maybe a new ability. Along with this as the camera moves to an overhead shot it shows Sonic running and some strange pattern appears. We wouldn’t be surprised if it was a new ability, a lot of Sonic 3D games have added new character abilities or game-specific gimmicks in the past.
Sonic games like this have had mixed reviews with Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors becoming fan-favourites but titles like Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Forces not so much. We certainly think this one will be worth the wait and prove to be another fan-favourite in the Sonic franchise.
We hope the Sonic Team have more information to share in the near future but as it’s quite a way of releasing we can imagine we’ll be waiting a little while before we get an update.
