Resident Evil

As promised, the Resident Evil showcase was a BIG event last night, but for those who didn’t manage to tune in to the Livestream, we’ve got everything you need to know right here.

As expected there was a huge focus on Resident Evil 8, which yesterday was announced for release on 7th May 2021.

Although it was uncertain up until yesterday, Camcopm said that Village will also be released on the same date for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.

What’s more, from last night, PS5 players can now immerse themselves in a non-combat demo set in Village’s castle area. Starring a new character named The Maiden trying to escape the area, this slice is intended to flaunt the game’s visuals, atmosphere and intricate environmental detail.

Village looks super impressive so far, and those who loved Resident Evil way back when will appreciate the many throwbacks. It’s expected that each area will have a prominent boss character and the castle will be ruled over by the tall vampire-esque lady who sent fans into a spin last week.

Alongside the Standard Edition, Village is set to have many different editions available to purchase including a Digital Deluxe Edition available on all platforms, Safe Room Music, a Mr Everywhere weapon charm, a Save Device tape recorder, an Albert01 gun, a Found Footage RE7 filter, and something called The Tragedy of Ethan Winters.

There’s also tipped to be a Collector’s Edition, which will include all of the above plus a box of physical memorabilia including a poster, artbook, Steelbook case and Chris Redfield figurine.

On top of all that, Capcom is also set to release a Resi 7 and village bundle for those who are yet to play.

Finally, during the showcase, Capcom revealed Re: Verse Resident Evil, which is a new multiplayer spin-off. It looks to be a competitive shooter where you can play as different characters from the Resi series, although there’s no word yet on its release date.
