As the years go by and the gaming industry continues to advance on an epic scale, changes and reinventions are inevitable. Trends come and go, and like everything, some of these gaming trends do more harm than good.
So, with that in mind, what gaming trends need to end this year?
Everyone has a specific gripe about something within the gaming world and here are ours;
- Excessive in-app purchases: Pay to win games, we understand that game developers want to make money from games, but making them pay to win isn’t fair. Some people could be unreal at pay to win games and not be able to afford all the in-game upgrades. So, through no fault of their own, they’re at a disadvantage.
- Rushed games: Cyberpunk 2077 being the perfect example. We’re given a release date which is then pushed back multiple times to then be pushed back again, it’s infuriating. You finally get your hands on the game and it’s full of bugs and glitches which completely ruins your gaming experience and might just make you hate the game you were waiting so long for. Instead, we think no game should be released unless they’re 99% bug/glitch free – regardless of the “official launch date”.
- Console scarcity: If you had been trying to get your mitts on the new Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 on release date you’ll know exactly where we’re coming from. We know it’s not often that new consoles are brought out, but being promised a console on launch day only to be told you have to wait until Christmas is downright heartbreaking!
- Console storage: Back in the day when games were 10GB maximum… Oh, how times have changed! With the PS5 having 667.2GB of memory and the Xbox Series X having 802GB you’d think this would be enough. But, no! With games now almost reaching 200GB file size you could download 4/5 games before having to fork out for an external HDD.
Let’s not make this all doom and gloom though – there are some awesome trends we’d like to see continue!
- The feeling that you are in control of your game. Cyberpunk 2077 being the perfect example, one little thing can change the whole trajectory of your game path. This gives gamers a unique bespoke experience tailored to them, unlike other games where there’s only one set story path to follow.
- Accessibility options are becoming more and more prominent in new releases giving those who never had the chance to experience games a new hope creating a more inclusive gaming industry.
- Indie games are continuing to push the boundaries of what you’d expect from an indie game and they come with an affordable price tag for many and classic titles of golden eras have been receiving quality remakes for everyone to enjoy.
Overall, we think the gaming community is in a very strong position and will only continue to grow and grow in the coming years!
