Call of Duty: Cold War is finally getting its long-awaited, highly requested League Play mode was released on 8th February.
Treyarch has signalled that the ranking system will be “built on the foundations” of Black Ops 4’s ranking system. But, for competitive fans, it will offer more ranks to climb during League Play events.
In Black Ops 4 you were able to compete in a Pro Series playlist using the same rules, game modes, maps, and restricts as pro players. These events were run in tight competitive windows of three to four days, with no gaps between the events allowing you to play non-stop to improve your rank.
How did Black Ops 4 League Play work?
When an event started you were placed into a Division of up to 50 players around your same skill level and you’d compete for the top position of the Division ladder. Winning increased your ladder points and losing decreased them and of course, the goal is to have the highest amount of points in your ladder.
However, in Black Ops 4, your division had no bearing as to who you were matched with because you’d be matched with players from the entire global population in League Play who were closest to your skill level.
In Black Ops 4 League Play, you had a permanent, progressive rank system which focused on both recent and lifetime performance called your World League Rank. You’d earn gems based on your final position in the Division Ladder, earning more gems would increase your rank and there was a total of 20 ranks to achieve.
Is this ranking system the best?
We much preferred the World War II League Play Elo ranking system, you’d play 10 games and then you’d be given your Elo number. Instead of just taking winning and losing into account this system also took round count, personal stats and other players rank into account. So if you were to have the best game of your life but still loose then you wouldn’t lose as much Elo as someone who didn’t play as well on your team and visa versa. It’s that simple, which is why we loved it and we’re much more invested in the making our number go up or down as apposed to winning gems.
Which is your favourite League Play ranking system?
