Ahoy, me hearties! Ubisoft is getting ready to ship out with an Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag sequel. As of 2020, the game has sold around a monstrous 15 million copies and back in 2013, it was the best-selling game. As the game reaped in a tonne of cash we can see why the franchise’s big cheeses want to revisit the pirating era but, there’s a catch.

What’s the Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Sequel?

Ubisoft Transmedia director Aymar Azaizia confirmed a toon series is going to continue Kenway’s story in an interview with Eurogamer. When asked about bringing back fan favourite Ezio he said they want to let the character rest. Their attention right now is on Black Flag as he explained “We had a talk about Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and potential novels or DLCs we never used or tapped into where we could see Edward going somewhere else – maybe not staying in the same seas, maybe going East… ‘That could be super interesting. We never told this story, what about pitching that?'”

Azaizia continued sharing what’s next for Kenway arc, “We decided to go with Assassin’s Creed 4 – we haven’t written anything yet, we know exactly what we want to do but we’re still in the process of creating. But that’s exactly how it came to be – we explored different characters, different things we wanted to do in the franchise, and what would work in a specific format – animated pirates! amazing! – that opened specific doors”.

When can we expect to see Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag

Eurogamer tried to get more details about what to expect but it seems the game is still in early development. When asked if it would follow on from the end of Black Sails with Kenway setting course to England Azaizia stated “It’s probably going to be just after the game, I don’t know exactly which year we’ll do specifically as we’ll do historical research to make sure we have some nice and interesting characters.

“It’s after the main events of Assassin’s Creed 4 so a lot of characters are out the call from the get-go, and at a point where Edward is embracing the Creed. Because in the game, a lot of people forget Edward is not an Assassin but posing as one, helping them. And it’s only at the end of the game he’s like ‘huh, maybe I could join’. It could be interesting to tap into that and see Edward as an Assassin”.
